used yfb 621 and the elusive yeb 621
Why don't we see many used 321 f's and has anyone toyed with extending the f to make an eflat version? I have played an 822 lengthened to eflat and it was killer.

Re: used yfb 621 and the elusive yeb 621
I'm constantly toying with extending a YFB-621 or (more realistically) cutting a YCB-621 to Eb (or taking the same body student tuba (103) and putting another .689 valve section on it in Eb).
The only reason I haven't has been money... and the certain confusion in my head should I attempt to play two instruments with an identical grip and different fingerings... the grip tells my brain what key tuba I'm holding
The 621 Fs can do any "F" job. It may never be perfect, but it's very flexible.
My gripe with the 822 F has always been that it was an Eb tuba with too little tubing and without the benefit of a compensating valve section. Never struck me as an F tuba... Great instrument, but not the "F" timbre I expect.

The YEB-381 is quite nice -- 5th valve is a dependent rotary, contained within the 4th valve tubing. Mine has the 5th tubing lengthened to a flat whole step by Lee Stofer, and has a valve lever extension so I can use the right hand thumb for it. A great quintet horn.
