It seems like you'd have to make sure your bell doesn't intersect your hat. We used to have a similar uniforms in my HS marching band, but the tuba players had to wear different headgear (busby + sousaphone was a no-go).
Another urban myth.

Back in the day, when men were men and sheep were nervous, we wore Sousaphones with full shakos and plumes. There's no reason for a properly worn Sousaphone to interfere with headgear.

Now, if for some reason you think that the rim of the Sousaphone bell has to rest against your forehead...that's a different story. And, of course, if you are just conning the Band Director into letting you wear way-cool berets instead
of those tacky shakos and plumes, I suppose that's OK, too.

Right you are, Dave. I'm 3rd in from the left on that picture and my strap is just sitting a little further back than everyone else's. That's why you can't see it. It's still the same striped pattern. Really great section and great guys to work with.

Looks like the players also are cut to Eb and BBb respectively.

We call ourselves the Pedal Tones. Most of us started playing together in the Crystal Lake Concert Band. A couple of years ago we got together to play some Christmas music for the Salvation Army Kettles and this year after Christmas we decided to keep playing together and started playing other music. So far we played a couple of services before Easter, opened for a French Horn Choir, played a Salvation Army dinner and are set to play for the 50th anniversary of a local barbershop next month.

In 2008 for the Kettles

Just saw Dave McCollum last week! He's doing well--flying again. He was one of my primary teachers. In my opinion, he is one of the best "unknown" teachers in the biz--a natural teacher. I knew Jim Stillwagon too--played a half-season with RCBB back in 2001.

I'm counting over 30 tuba majors in that picture. Is this the largest university level tuba studio in the country?

I'm guessing only Indiana University at Bloomington reaches/surpasses this number?

Seriously... how many ensembles are there to give people an opportunity to play? Sounds like a place that's not for me...

One of my previous tuba teachers (a grad from UNT) told me that at UNT, you're just a number..not a person. And that may be the reason it is "sort of" looked down upon by tuba players. Again, this was not my opinion but somebody else's.

Well when you have a Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Brass Band, Concert Band, Marching Band, there's plenty of chances to play. In this picture, there are just all of the tuba players for this semester. Some are grad students who don't perform in the ensembles, some are student-teaching that came back for the picture, some are a certain Edward Jones of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, some aren't even music majors. These are simply the tuba players of UNT. Yes, it's a large department, but going into my second year of studies as a performance major, I don't feel like a "number" at all. If anything, I feel as if I'm part of a large family.

Sorry to get all defensive on ya'll, I just wanted to make sure people didn't start looking down on Don Little's studio just because I posted a picture.

The One More Time Marching Band low brass section.
Paul (bass trombone) and Alen (trombone) in front.
Thom with his Conn (and a house on his head) and Eric with his Holton (euph)
Me with my King Sousy.

The Parade theme was "raising the roof" and Thom's house roof would raise!
