Nirschl J700

Post by CNCBrass »

Can anybody comment on the ergonomics of this tuba? I am interested to know if it is necessary to set the tuba on the chair and straddle it, use a stand, or if you can set it in your lap and comfortably reach the mouthpiece. For reference, I am 6 feet tall.

Thanks in advance, DH

They are as bad as they look.

Definitely one of those things where you have to ask yourself if the excellence in manufacture and sound outweigh the price and ergonomics.

Only you can decide that.

I played the J700 and there were no ergonomic issues. They have played around with the position of the J8XX CC tubas but unless it is a recent development, the BBb tuba has been straightforward (no pun intended).

Alex,

Do you recall if you could comfortably reach the mouthpiece with the horn sitting in your lap or did it have to set below your lap in order to play it?

Thanks, DH
