Does someone have a copy of the picture of a gold plated sousaphone which had the American eagle beautifully engraved on it in several places on the bell? I saw it once briefly and would like to be able to look at it in more detail. The horn must have been a special order or commemorative edition. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Tubenetters,

Thank you! The picture posted is the one I was referring to. Where is that horn located and what else can you tell me about it? Much appreciated!

I don’t have this specific instrument reporesented, as I generally don’t present photos already available in other web galleries (there are a few exceptions).
If you have good photos of any brass instruments off the most common mainstream, I am most interested. By that i mean, that Conn 20K and Besson’s compensating instruments from between 1965 and 2000 are kind of covered already.
I am more interested in photos mimicking the original blue-prints than I am in art photography happening to have brass instruments as objects. Also there you will find exceptions. David Richoux’s find of the sousaphone bell turned into a lady-backside was great. Readable shots of engravings are important.

Take a length of 5/16 tubing as long as the circumference of the rim, slit it, fit it over the bell rim, and it will damp the overring. Being clear, it is not visible, and being the right kind of plastic, will not interact with the finish. That is what I have done.goodgigs wrote:It is said to play better with a different bell as this one tends to "over ring" too much.
