Re: Jumbo Summit 2010
When is the Jumbo summit next year? I'll try to come with the King 32 inch giant.

Nice recording. The jumbos don't overpower the band too much, but you can definitely hear (and feel) the presence.

Re: Jumbo Summit 2010
I don't think even four Jumbos really overpower a band - higher pitches will always come through. Modern ears are accustomed to lots of bass due to amplified bass in pop music and sub-woofers on hi-fi systems, so the Jumbos provide a very satisfactory foundation to the band.
Whoever turns down the bass on their hi-fi? Most people turn the bass up.

Now, I wish there were a way to hear that band/those players with "normal" sousaphones and compare that to the sound of the jumbos!
I liked what I heard so far...more videos of music on the way I hope?

Re: Jumbo Summit 2010
As you'll see in the videos, there was a band member playing a 3(?)-valve Eb sousaphone. Perhaps if the same person would play a scale on that horn and then, using the same mouthpiece, play the same scale on a BBb Jumbo, you'd have your answer. Maybe next year.bort wrote:Now, I wish there were a way to hear that band/those players with "normal" sousaphones and compare that to the sound of the jumbos!

I suppose you not only want 'normal' sousaphones.... but 'normal' players, too?bort wrote:Now, I wish there were a way to hear that band/those players with "normal" sousaphones and compare that to the sound of the jumbos!
