Short action pistons - a variant

Post by imperialbari »

Short action, but stems still are centered.jpg
These short-action pistons have a strong similarity with those found in the Conn 20K and 22K sousaphones. Only those on the photo have their stems centered, not off-set like with the 20K and 22K pistons.

Conn also kept the stems of their short-action baritone pistons centered.

I believe those on the photo are Conn made variants, but I never saw such before.

They could very well from the Jin Boa clone of the Conn 20K. I took the valve caps off and pulled the valves out to look at them at the NAMM Show a couple years ago and these look just like them. Only the valve cap and button design has changed, these are a little nicer.

If these are the Schiller sousaphones, these would be the only tuba that would actually be an "American Heritage" instrument.

That picture is of a valves from a set I bought ,,I had to take off the nylon valve guides. That were very bad and under the stem. Then put on new metal guides on the side of the valves ,Clean up the guide slot and the valve set work great.
I put the valve set on a older Helicon that I had.. The horn sounded and played great the guy is very happy. He picked it up on Saturday. A other Happy Helicon Player... Thanks Harv.
