Jupiter horns

The 4 valved euphoniums are very nice now. The lady that sits next to in community band bought a used (one year old ) one and I have played it many times. It has a very bright sound compared to my Boosey&Hawkes Imperial but I liked it very much. As far as I could tell is was well built and had a very good silver finish on it. It is very similar to the Yamaha 321 and King 2280. Small shank reciever though. It would do well with a large shank mouthpiece rather than a small one. Very free blowing and easy to play,espically in the upper range. I would have loved to have had one of these when I was in high school. It's a very decent intermediate horn.

The JEP570 euphonium has a 3+1 valve configuration and comes standard with a large mouthpiece receiver. Jupiter calls it their "British Style" model. I have owned several Jupiter horns, inc a trumpet, cornet and euphonium. Never had an issue with quality. For intermediate horns they are good value. Equal to Yamaha IMO at that level.

I own a Jupiter 582, the Bb version of the 584 CC, and also a 482 3/4. I've been very happy with both. The workmanship is very good and I've had no issues. The 582 & 482 have become the favorites of my stable due to their comfortable playing positions and good intonation.

For intermediate playing, the Jupiters are good. I just don't like the Jupiter wrap of these tubas because with the "open wrap" they are dent magnets for school horn use. But they do have good reviews, and are higher in quality than they used to be. A friend of mine a couple of years ago for community band purchased the 4-valve up non-comp euph, and it has turned out to be a very good instrument for him and that application. It took him awhile to find a good mouthpiece for it, as the stock mouthpiece is trash and some of the more "standard" mouthpieces, like the Schilke 51D, were too "tubby" sounding for this particular model. I tried an older BBb once, and the quality has improved. It could be the horn for you, it might not. Try before you buy.
