Gig bags for Yama YFB 822?

Post by LauriH »

Hi to everyone,

I have been looking around to find a slim gig bag for my Yamaha YFB 822. Though Soundwear gig bags are nice and easy to get I don't like the size and weight of those. Though Reunion Blues and Cronkhite bags seems nice also I came up with Miraphone gig bags. The size for medium to large Cc and Bb tubas seems to fit well and leaves only 4 inches of extra space in height and mayby half an inch for the bell. What do you think, would it be worth buying for or do you have suggestions for a better gig bag?

Thanks for the help.

Maybe it's just me, but I think 4" of extra length in the bag does not a good fit make.

Cronkhite makes a bag that fits the 822 exactly.

I fear cheap gig bags.

Cronkhite says, "The first repair to your instrument because you bought the cheap case, will cost more than the expensive case."

Just sayin'...

The YFB 822 in the Miraphone bag would need a fair amount of padding at the bottom bow area to keep the Yamaha from hanging by the bell inside the bag. Those are designed to fit an instrument that is 40" tall and the Yamaha isn't really even close to that. The Petruschka bag would be a closer fit, but with the Yamaha's slightly bigger bell, I'm not sure that it would be able to handle it. I don't have an 822 here right now to give it a try either.

I would keep looking or give the Petruschka bag a try.

All the best.

Thanks guys.

Does anybody know the lenght of the Petruschka? It might fit because the 822 fits also into my Melton 45SLP:s soundwear gig bag. Although it's a tight fit with the bell it still fits. Have to give it a try if I find one. Meanwhile if somebody have any experience about it I would be really happy to hear the results.

About Cronkhite bags. Are they slim or like Soundwear bags? I really like the slimnes on my PT6P:s B&S gig bag and I'm looking similar for my 822.

Cheers.

Just an FYI for all, Soundwear has apparently stopped making tuba gig bags. I sent an e-mail to them yesterday asking for some clarification on some sizing questions, and they said they had stopped making the bags.

Sorry.

Yep, that's right. Haven't made them for a while. You still get them while the stock last. That is if you want to get one ;)
