It's OctoberFest time again!

I don't normally play these [although I wouldn't mind a call], but I got a call to supply a brass band for mid-October. It will be 45-60 minutes of Lutheran fundraiser [with ROOTbeer, of all things!], so they will not be too picky about the music, I would hope. Where would I get hold of a set of the old Hungry 5 books on fairly short notice? Are they still in print?

The Hungry Five in Germany books are still in print. Hansen House, I think. Just a short time ago I found them on J W Pepper or Hal Leonard. Don't remember which. Try searching those two music sites.

I think there are perhaps 15 tunes in those books. The tunes are fairly short but can be repeated for extra length. Play through 'em... take a break... and play 'em again! Who's gonna know! Toss in "Dance little Bird" and a couple of Ein Prosits and you've got a pretty good beer-fest gig!

JWPepper lists them, as you said, but something to the effect that they are POP [permanently out of print?] and they will require 3-4 weeks to ship--which doesn't work for October 16th! Know anything that might be obtained more quickly?

Thank you--I see where I messed up. At the bottom, it's a little misleading, but you have to hit "see all"mixed ensembles, not just a page 1, page 2 setup.

Funny how they still refer to the tuba book as "Eb bass". It's just a normal tuba book in bass clef.

This is probably your best bet. Herbert has, or can get, a lot of stuff. For my taste, the Hungry Five book just doesn't have much that is being played in beer tents/Oktoberfests, these days. The arrangement play well, but just don't rock my boat. And the jokes in them....

Well then, for what may be a one-off gig, what do you recommend that would provide better bang for the buck? I admit that I will have to abridge the clarinet parts to accommodate our brass-only instrumentation, so I know the Hungry Five isn't ideal, and from my distant memory, the jokes were horrendous! Is there something affordable yet better?
