I should have made clear that I am selling - thanks for pointing that out Wade. I really don't know about the PAL encoding - maybe someone else on here who knows can answer that?

A PAL VHS tape will not play on an NTSC (North America/Japan) VHS player. The cassette is the same size, but the recording frequencies are different. You must have the PAL tape converted to an NTSC VHS or DVD before you can watch it. Too bad this wasn't a DVD - most 'cheap' DVD players have hidden menu options, accessible via a numeric combination on the remote, to remove regional encoding, allowing the viewer the ability to watch DVDs from almost anywhere in the world!
