Weight of Miraphone 1291 CC?

Post by bort »

Does anyone know the weight of a Miraphone 1291 CC tuba? I had one for years and never thought to weigh it... any help?

Thanks! :tuba:

According to our freight scale, 22 pounds.

Bort,

We had talked a little about the Conn Donatelli - I ran it down to our shipping department, and sans mouthpiece it is 25.1 pounds.

(In an Altieri bag with some music, a few different oils, and a couple of BlokePieces®, it comes out to almost 35)

Thanks Marty. I'll be weighing my stuff on Saturday (when I get to buy a scale). I'll see if it makes sense that the Marzan is breaking my back. Or if I just got weaker. :)

Marzan = 24 lbs
Cerveny = 14 lbs

Both seem about 2 or 3 pounds lighter than I thought...I'm actually kind of confused, since the Marzan feels so much heavier to me. But, I guess the scale doesn't lie (it didn't lie about my own weight! :()

My Mirafone 1291 5V BBb tipped the scales at about 22 pounds. I haven't weighed my Marzan 'slant-rotor' BBb but I sure would have thought the Mirafone weighs more.

Weight of horns really isn't much of a factor with me since I use a play stand most of the time.

Current 'stable'... Rudolf Meinl 5/4, Marzan (by Willson) euph, King 2341, Alphorn, and other strange stuff.

Tinker -
Don't you have both a Mirafone 1291 and a Chinese clone 1291?
I would be curious to find out if the clone weighs a few pounds more - my 186 clone seemed noticeably heavier than a German one.
