I seriously considered buying this horn ... and still might if the price doesn't get stupid. I think it has possibilities. The leadpipe has to be changed for certain. And... there may be some problems with the configuration of the bugle. The components are well worth the current price of $500.

I think you could make a pretty penny if the bidding stays <$1000, but what do I know? :P

On the surface, it may appear to be an opportunity to make a buck. However... it's not difficult to rack up twenty... thirty... or more hours 'fiddling' with projects to get them playable.

I don't think this piece would be an exception to that. It looks like a bit of work WITHOUT the fiddling alone.

Looks to me like a valve circuit length issue. Maybe they were never lengthened or not lengthened enough from the old Eb configuration?

Yikes! I didn't bother reading the fingering descriptions.
Well if the bidding ends where it is, someone is still getting a nice looking conn giant EEb bugle at a decent price; there's something about the loop after the top bow though... . "We can rebuild [it]..."

I don't want to influence this auction by posting much additional information here. I will say, however.... if you have any ambitions regarding putting this horn into shape... you need to direct your questions to the owner. He did tell me that the valve section was cut from a BBb sousaphone and that the fourth valve is added on.

If you buy this horn.... DON'T send it sent to me for repairs.

Mastering the operation of this tuba is the kind of bizarre challenge that appeals to me. If I wasn't trying to save money for another, more functional instrument, I would be in the market.

I was going to go after this horn just for the parts until I discovered that the valve section is from a 3V sousa with the 4th valve added. While I've had very good experiences turning 3V valve sections into 4V ones... I just wasn't sure how this particular one was put together. It could have been a very interesting project for me had certain things been a little different.

One thing about CC tubas.... that particular market is normally geared more toward professional playing and is a little more demanding than BBb schlubs like me!
