2 questions

Post by brownellz »

OK the first question is i just bought a Besson Sovereign Euphonium but the case isn't in the best shape. I was thinking of buying a gig bag for it but wanted some others opinions.
My other question is I'm going to do a solo piece for a competition as a senior in high school. Right now im considering suites for baritone and another. Any other suggestions?

As far as gig bags go, I'd recommend either a Reunion Blues bag (what i use for my Besson) or a Cronkhite Bag (what Steven Mead uses for his Besson). If you want to spend a little more, Soundwear has a lightweight case that offers the portability and size of a gig bag along with the enhanced protection of a hard case.

By suite for baritones I'm guessing you mean the Don Haddad Suite for Baritone? That is a pretty good piece for a high school senior. I'd also consider the Morceau Symphonique by Alexandre Guilmant or the Andante et Allegro by Barat. Both are standard trombone solos, but translate well for the euphonium.

Good luck with the new horn and practice hard for your competition!

If you're interested I have a Sovereign hard case that I'd be willing to sell for probably less than a good gigbag would cost. I have a cronkite bag and love it and have never used the hard case since I purchased this horn from a friend a couple years ago. Other than a little dust there is nothing wrong with this case, its just taking up space that I'd like back.

Let me get into my storage unit this weekend and I'll get the case and make sure nothing has happened to it and then get back to you. Send me a PM or an email where you're located so I can get a guesstimate on shipping costs too.
