Here's a link from Amazon that lists some secondary sources:

Here's a link to an Arkiv CD recording of Mehta and New York doing Symphonie Fantastique. Sam Pilafian is playing 2nd tuba with Warren playing 1st tuba.

This is some of the most frightening tuba playing ever caught on disc. Truly astounding.
I listened to this again today. It's remarkable... I can listen to this and still get goosebumps every time. That was one hell of a performance! The brass is the best I've ever heard recorded.

Out of interest how does this compare to the legendary recording of Prokofiev 5 by Previn/LSO with John Fletcher?

They are both excellent. The Masur 5th is coupled with excerpts from Romeo & Juliette. I love all of theose old Previn/LSO recordings, including the complete ballet recording of Romeo & Juliette and Holst Planets.

Got me thinking a bunch, and if you're looking for a free alternative to buying a NYPO disc, check this out! (Sent to me recently by a friend)

But shame on you for not spending the $10 at iTunes, or $ on amazon to own an example of some really fantastic orchestral playing!
