Hi has anyone tried this tuba yet? Can anyone tell me anything about it the good and the bad thank you.

Coming soon, based on the classic York model 33, with 4 front pistons and one rotor. The prototype is amazing....

3/11/10 - I just played the third prototype yesterday at the Kanstul factory. I just ordered on in silver, and I will most likely sell my Hirsbrunner HB-2 and will play this instead. It's that good. This latest version has larger bore valve section. First through third pistons are .689", fourth is .710", and the fifth rotor is .734". Also, the bell and bottom bow have been made lighter.

Includes SKB385W hard case. Silver plate, add $500

I was just poking around the Horn Guys website yesterday and it said that Steve Ferguson has his personal Kanstul York CC at his shop available to test out. I don't know where you are but if you are near La Crescenta, California you have an opportunity to test one.

I was going back and forth between Mr. Stofer's site and the Kanstul site and comparing the pics. Why is it that the one on Lee's site looks completely different than the one on Kanstul's site? For example, the one on Lee's site has the 5th valve linkage on the back side of the horn and the 5th valve/main tuning slides seem closer to the lead pipe. Am I missing something here?

With the kanstuls you need to remember that

A. These are prototypes. The one on steves site is a true prototype.
B. Kanstuls tubas have so many options. Plus he will build however you want.

I have played all the new kanstul tubas (and own the f) and they are great. I'm hoping to spend more time with the cc but with the time I had with it I thought it was great. Kanstul has a good thing going on.

The one that I'm referencing is the horn right below it. It's the Kanstul 90-S 4/4 CC. If you take a look at some of the alternate photos there are a lot of differences when compared to the one on the Kanstul site.

@bububassboner: The pictures I am referencing are on Lee Stofer's & Kanstul's website and they are indeed production. I've seen the prototype on Hornguys.com.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. He's got a bunch. In particular, the York 712 BBb Symphony bass is one heck of a great horn.

I wish the CC Kanstul had been there when I was there a month ago. I got a chance to play the prototype Kanstul F while I was there; it's a neat little horn with superb design and build quality. It's a shame that I'm probably the only person who ever played that horn who sounded lousy on it. F tuba is just not my thing.

I have been to the Kanstul factory, and I have played each of their new horns. They currently have two CC's and two F's which they are trying to perfect before they mass produce. They have the classic "york" sound, very flexible, and right now they are just working out some minor fluxuations in intonation. I can't suggest a better horn as of now than the new Kanstul horns.

I have not seen the Kanstul live, but as the Willson is HUGE I guess the Kanstul is smaller and lighter.

The Kanstul 90 is listed on your website as being priced at $5250 for Lacquer and $8900 for silver. This must be a misprint, as I'm sure silver plate does not command a $3650 premium?

How does the sound compare

Utterly different. The 4/4 Kanstuls I have tried are real 4/4 instruments. They are not grand orchestral horns. They have a big, resonant sound, but they are not intended as competition for something like the 3050.
