The last time I called them was a month after we moved in. My wife looked out the back window and there stood a fox. A terribly, wretched, mangy, drooling at the mouth, must be rabid fox. It took them 3 days to respond. When they showed up I told them where they could find said fox in the main road after the car hit it, in return for them promising to call me to tell me if it was rabid or not. They never called, but I did track it down eventually, and found it was rabid, just as I thought. I called them again this morning as soon as they opened up and have not seen or heard anything yet. My tax dollars at work.

Clearly, they're waiting for you to call again to inform them where the animal can be found, already dead.

You're slacking! Time's a-wastin'! Fire up the Dodge!

Remembrance Day in Canada

Post by roughrider »

My band was among a group of three that performed at our service this morning. It was held at Credit Union Centre here in Saskatoon. There were 7,500 people present. It is the largest indoor service for Remembrance Day in Canada. The Salvation Army band was there as well as a smaller group, the Harmony Wind Ensemble and my band, the Saskatoon Concert Band. We took turns playing and our band played "Blessed are They" by Brahms and "On The Quarterdeck" by Kenneth Alford among others. It was a great service and it was nice to see so many young people there. A time to be thankful, grateful and honoring those who served in the past in our armed forces as well as those who are in active service now. We are very lucky to enjoy the freedoms that we have.

An added benefit of being a 2-tuba man... when 1 is in the shop, you've still got 1 to play with. :)

My ten year old threw up all over everywhere and everything in my small bathroom except IN the toilet. Several hours later my six year old threw up all over her blankets and sleeping bag. Trying to wash some of the stuff off clogged up the tiny sink. The apartment stinks despite cleaning everything in sight with half a bottle of pine cleaner. It is 2 am and I am in the next building trying to do laundry.

Sorry, Schlep! That's bad news.

What might cheer y'up, though, is something I just thought up of. I imagine that there is a substantially-large fanbase for individuals who enjoying RC helicopters. They spend loads of cash on getting the coolest rigs and custom gear to fly up and have a grand old time. And, like so many other ethusiasts, they have their own annual/biannual/etc. inter/national gatherings to talk and share ideas as well as for businesses to advertise their relevent wares and services.

The name for this sort of pow-wow?

This should *not* extend to 6 lb. bags of Gummy Bears. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.

Comprehensive exams to happen sometime next spring. Not an enjoyable thing to look forward to, but a rite of passage for all graduate students. At least, I've plenty of time to study.

I've been told that the anticipation is actually worse than the exams.

schlepporello wrote: Kind of hard to tell at the moment. I'm having issues with the first valve, it's sticking. The valve itself looks great, no knicks, burrs or bad spots. It's got to be something in the casing itself. I've already checked the stem and it's as straight as can be. I'll tend to the casing tomorrow.
I have had a little of that, with my sousaphone with the rebuilt valves. First valve sticks once in a while. Goes away if I use more motor oil in the mix. The theory that was advanced to me is that, indeed, the casing could have been pushed in a little, if it had taken a bump on the tubing. I'll take it in for some professional attention at some point. Don't know what the cure is, but I assume it does not involve removal of any material, which I guess would make the casing even weaker and more vulnerable to the next bump.

I'm in danger of missing TubaChristmas this year, for the first time since 1997. I'll be in Germany 12/11 to 12/18, which is sort of "high time" for TC events. *Might* still be a chance for me to get to one in early December, but not looking great at the moment...
