What brand of F tuba is this?

Just checking out other peoples' auditions, and noticed this interesting horn (the first one). Any thoughts about what it is?

It almost looks familiar... Whatever it is, after hearing him play it I'm not so interested in it. :P Nor the second horn. Why is he playing it by memory for a recorded audition if he DOESN'T KNOW IT?!? :D Also, that (his playing, but also somewhat my comments) sounds bad. Bad attacks and a somewhat-left-out middle note. Jeez I'm such a jerk. No one listen to ME play!! :D Me screwing around on youtube playing random stuff on a horn I've never played in a group is one thing, some friggin classically-trained putz screwing up on his pre-recorded audition is laughable.

Also, I have little respect for young adults getting into the (deep breath) picking-an-F-for-it's-German-sound-BUT-picking-a-piston-C-irrefriggingardless because some older dude told them to drop 20,000 on such, or they read it on Tubenet  ,...

I really don't care what people choose to play, as long as they don't rag on other people's choices or pick what they did blindly (as so many people seem to do, which is probably why I in turn get all like-the-way-I-usually-am :D). But, you know what I -really-hate? Friggin music ed majors (bless them! music ed is important, only speaking ill of some of them) that think they know everything about music because they had a half hour lesson once a week and took a one semester woodwind methods class once. I know -plenty- of people like that. Ridiculous. And I cannot right now think of a one of them who is musical in the slightest. You hitting most of your notes? 8 semesters (plus whatever in high school...) has you cleanly double tonguing? Good for you! You still sound like a synthesizer version of a synthesizer (I originally wrote "moose" here :D)! Technical faults can be temporarily tolerated and worked on. A lack of musicality is a bit more damning.

But no, I do not know what F tuba that is. :D

Don't know; at least he puts some air into it. Many on Youtube are making very passive performances.

Hey the guy put himself out there, seems to be having fun trying his best. Who knows how anyone goes about picking his or her instruments, and frankly who cares? To each his own, not my money.

I've seen that F tuba before, but I too am drawing a blank on the name at the moment.

The fairly short stack makes me think of some Cerveny F tubas.

Kind of... looks about the right size, but the leadpipe is funky (so high!) and the 4th valve wrap is different (on the Cervenys I've seen, it wraps to the back). Maybe an older one? Or some sort of Asian-built F?

Hallo,
Both tubas were made by Gronitz.
The F is a FZ127 and the CC is the PCK 5/4.
I believe there are some pics on tubnet if you search under gronitz

Bob,

You should consider switching to decaf, dude.

Seriously...

Maybe a little less Piña in the Kolada, or the other way round.

Figures. I put a post simply asking what this lesser known instrument is, and I get way-off answers.

Thanks 2165, for the model of the horn.

Lighten up, my man....

TubeNet is many things to many people. Bob gets to go mental, people get to make fun of him and DP gets to be rude. And you get your answer.

Bob may have been harsh, but would any one of us seeking a job where a preliminary recording was required submit any of the videos posted? I didn't see all of them, but what I watched today was not very good. I don't know what the aim of the Youtube symphony is, but if Tilson Thomas is involved, folks need to bring their A+ game and not post videos with technical errors.
