Hi Guys i have a question that i need some input on

Post by TubaGuy1982 »

Hi fellow tubenetters

I was just curious too see out there if anyone has had any experience and if it was good or bad
I have received word from a couple of my physicans that i will need to soon undergo a tonsilectomy
and was just curious if there was anyone who had this done as an adult and how did it affect your
playing....i was told it takes 2-3 weeks before i could play again and there is a small possibility that
i may not be able to play anymore after that(that was what the ENT informed me of yesterday)
have any of you heard of anyone not being able to play after you get your tonsils out after
your an adult??? i was just curious as i am trying to decide what i shall do and would appreciate any
and all input you guys could give me and how did it affect your playing???

thanks a bunch

first the scary stuff, there is always a small possibility that everything will go wrong, your doctor should have told you about all that.

in the UK tonsillectomy is going out of fashion, but a while ago it was one of the commonest surgical procedures performed.
if all goes well, there should be no problems with returning to playing, and you may even notice an improvement in your breathing and your general level of well being that can only improve your playing.
most players over 40 have had their tonsils removedat some point as will most professional singers of that age.
i will not tell you not to worry, but listen to the advice of your doctor and good luck
