Byrd - Earl of Oxford's March bibliographic question

Post by imperialbari »

William Byrd - The Earl of Oxford's March

This piece is known in various arrangements for bands and for brasses.

However I for once wanted seeing Byrd’s own version. I seem to recall the piece being a part one of Byrd’s collections for harpsichord, but which one?

I believe what you are thinking of is the fitzwilliam virginal book. Not a collection of just Byrd works...

(it's in volume 2, page 411 of the pdf or 402 if you are going by the numbers on the pages)

Thank you very much!

Saved me a lot of eying (not my strongest side).

Alone looking at the first staves brings the Philip Jones version to my ears. There is so much good voicing in the original that the PJ arrangement (by Elgar Howarth?) represents very well.
