Reynolds Euphonium

Post by Dan Schultz »

One of my biggest New Year's resolutions is to get some of the stuff out of the shop that's been here for a while. One item I'm been lax about getting to is a main tuning slide mechanism on a Reynolds euphonium. There are pieces missing. While I'm sure I could come up with something that would work... I would much rather duplicate or purchase original used parts. Anyone have one of these things?

This looks identical to the BBb and Eb front action first valve spring assemblies... true?

I'll have a look around...

I once had a Reynolds with a spring-loaded first valve slide but can't remember if it spring-returned... or spring-centered. Also can't remember what the actuator looked like.

Think maybe the one on the euph main slide had a plunger on top to push the slide out and have it spring return??

Not enough detail in those pics to do much good. I'd still have to guess!

I would surmise it identical with centering springs - tuck for certain partials and for 2&3, push out for top F and low E and B. Just a guess. I know how those are built, but they don't wear well, sadly. Doubt there are parts in Allied.

A 'push-pull' device with spring centering would be ideal IF there was a 2nd main tuning slide.

I think an additional main slide would have also been ideal on the Marzans with the main on top.

Reynolds also had the centering spring-loaded slide on the first valve circuit of their Contempora tubas for a few years.

I had one of those. The device was pretty much worthless!

I am getting as many audio gigs as I can to raise money to help take that Marzan off your hands. Hopefully soon. :)
