recording of 1291 and two 1291's
A few people have asked if there are any recordings of a 1291 played in an orchestra. If you go to the NY Phil web site. Click on attend concerts then broadcasts. You will find a recent concert with Kurt Masur. Rachmaninof is 1 1291
the Mussorgsky has two 1291's. Morris Kainuma playing the 2nd one. This will only be there this week.

It always amazes how good the NYPO sounds live. It makes me really think that the recordings made for consumer release are overmic'd just like the guys in the CSO complain.
That Gorchakov version of Pictures is starting to grow on me. While not as transparent as the Ravel, the Bydlo is one heckuva blow without having to worry about who is gonna play the french tuba part and what horn to play it on.
Nice work and thanks for sharing.

Every time I've tried clicking the real player button, I've gotten "page not found". This last time, I got some action on the browser, but it's been over 5 minutes now on a very fast cable connection! I am beginning to despair!Jonathantuba wrote:I did not find it very intuitive to access, spending about 5 minutes going around the site to locate. Go to http://newyorkphilharmonic.org/attend/b ... ilterKey=1 and then click on the REAL PLAYER in red on the right of the page. Even with Broadband I find it then takes 30 seconds loading before playing, so be patient particularly if you have dial-up! Good luck.mog976 wrote:Did any of you that couldn't get it to work at first figure out how to get it to work? If you did, could you let me in on the secret?
Great recording - really nice to hear the Gorchakov arrangement of Pictures. Pity that the concert is not available on CD.

how-2 if you can't get the link to connect with Real Player
On the page with the link to the concert stream, right-click the button with the link and copy the link ("copy link location" in some browsers). Open Real Player, go to the file menu, and choose OPEN. Paste the link and hit enter. It may take a minute or more to connect, but it will eventually begin with the pre-concert narration, and then the whole concert comes through.

Thanks, GC! I did it that way and it took all of 30 seconds loading. Wonder why it wouldn't jump?GC wrote:On the page with the link to the concert stream, right-click the button with the link and copy the link ("copy link location" in some browsers). It worked for me. I used Microsoft's Digial Plus Analog Recorder to record it realtime as it played to an WMA file that I loaded into my Ipod for future listening.
