Uncle Buck, have you tried any second hand clothing stores - Goodwill, Salvation Army, or any thrift shops? If you are lucky, you may be able to find clothing donated from a former person who wears the same size clothes you do. If they have good taste and a fine eye for clothing, icing on the cake. But you have to make the rounds pretty regularly to see what is new and available and get it before someone else does. Just a thought. :?
Yup, been there, done that. Also, if you're pretty comfortable with your jacket size, you can find deals on the Internet. Unfortunately, though, you have to be prepared for jacket sizes to vary among manufacturers.

We were wandering through a Goodwill store and my wife noticed a tux that looked like it might fit me. I tried it on and it indeed fit very well. It was in practically new condition, After Six, Pierre Cardin, and priced at $15.00. With my 20% senior discount, I got it for a mere $12.00!!!

i agree with sloan and uncle buck that your nice clothes are probably uncomfortable because they do not fit properly. There is no reason a shirt and tie has to be uncomfortable. Get a shirt with the collar that is comfortable and a little loose so you can play. it should not be hard to button the collar. Also a suit coat should not be too tight that it is uncomfortable or restricts your playing. you can look good and still be comfortable.

I buy my shirts a little bigger in the collar and the arm for comfort just in general and this ties into my playing & conducting. I have my black suit and 2 navy sport coats. The suit and 1 sport coat are a size larger and get worn for music stuff so I have the extra room to move. The 2nd sport coat gets worn for everything else where I want/need to look like I dress like an "adult" with proper fitting clothes and not wearing my big brother's clothes.

As far as costs go, the suit was a gift a few years back, the large blazer was a donation from a big brother type friend, and the proper fit blazer was purchased for pennies on the dollar on a JC Penny's clearance rack while shopping killing time waiting for the wife at the mall one day last year. I think I paid $15 for it.

As most everybody has stated, dress for the job, whatever it may be.
