Re: Ken K got a new Horn..
Not sure what to call it yet Alex. I will play it in a funky NOLA style 2nd line brass band called the Nasty 9, so maybe the Nastyphone, or Funkophone or Dr. Seusophone???
Yes hal, it is based on an old 1920's vintage Buescher. Here is a pic of what it was like when I first got the horn. It had a huge Conn sousa bell on it:

Then I got a correct vintage bell for it from bloke (Thank you bloke!):

It had really funky intonation, so Harv did some valve tuning slide work for me. We cut a lot of slide off the first and third slides and inverted them so I can pull them from the top. He also polished it up all pretty for me:

Then lastly he did the rearranging.
I have two Mardi Gras gigs in March which I plan to use it on. Can't wait. I used to use a helicon with the band but I am having some neck and shoulder pain and do not want to use the helicon for a while.
Next I would like to get a valve job on it.

Are you putting a wheel on the supporting stick for the 2nd line jobs?

Re: Ken K got a new Horn..
Actually Harv and I have talked about it, because I have seen string bass players use a small wheel on their peg for transporting their basses. The only problem is that the peg for the Stewart Stand is a little wobbly when I stand because it is extended so far. I wanted to make the horn playable both standing and sitting so we got a longer rod to use on the stand but it is too spindly. It is OK if I don;t move around too much but who knows what will happen when the spirit moves me.....
I am trying to see if I can rig up a shoulder strap of some kind, so I could use it if I wanted to move around a little.

Re: Ken K got a new Horn..
We considered making it look like a sax with the bell sticking out in front of the horn, but we decided to turn the bell over itself so it was more compact and wouldn't take up so much room on the band stand. We are usually crammed in a corner somewhere and there is not too much room.

What about adding a second peg? That could help stabilize the horn.ken k wrote:The only problem is that the peg for the Stewart Stand is a little wobbly when I stand because it is extended so far.
