For those of you not already informed, South Africa's premiere orchestra has an opening for principal tuba. I just wanted to know if anyone was interested in applying for the job?

Just in case anyone else is doing this, they changed the audition list as of yesterday. Two weeks before the audition. Not cool.

Also, do you think it's a postmarked deadline or a DEADline, deadline?

- The audition list was not "changed". The orchestra merely provided some clarity as to the exact sections to be played at the audition/tape. It is still not 100% correct, since the only instruction for Hindemith Symphonic Metamorphasis's is "10 bars".
as for "Also, do you think it's a postmarked deadline or a DEADline, deadline?", the deadline for receiving the applications at the offices in SA is 28 February.
As for Durban itself, the climate is sub-tropical. So warm, we summers, and warm winters. We just had our first rainfall in over two weeks. Temperatures average between 15 and 30 degrees celcius (59-86 fahrenheit). More on the weather can be found at http://www.sa-venues.com/weather/kwazulunatal.htm" target="_blank" target="_blank
Duban is SA's biggest port, and the last British Colony in South Africa, and more info about the population etc can be found at

The minibus taxis, cabs (our version of the yellow cab) and busses, make transport around Durban very easy and affordable.

I read your post, am NOT Tube player but play violin interested in vacancy co principal 2.violin at Kwazulu Natal Philharmonic. Would like to ask you about how much the salary is ( after the taxes, socialsecurity/medical insurance etc) ? Also interested about the existence of the orchestra, bec.you mentioned the KNPO survivied and will continue to do so "for a while"... Do you mean it for a short term (couple of years) or longer? since I look for the long term job...
Is the orchestral excerpts possible to get from orchestra library per mail?
