It may sound dumb but start checking all of the local pawn shops, checking craigs list and file a police report. It makes it easier since you have the serial number. A similar situation happened in Columbia, SC with a friends euphonium and once we found it(on craigs list with the help of TubeNet people) we called the police and Scott had his horn back the next day.

Good luck finding your tuba

Hey Jarrad.

What bad news. I'll keep an eye out for it and see if I can help turn it up.

Hang in there my friend.

Hello All,

The tuba is still missing along with the cello and some drum equipment from Lawrence University. The police were notified a few weeks ago and nothing has been found yet. My insurance has taken a large depreciation value off my horn on top of my deductable, now I'm in the market for a used (not-so expensive) horn. Has anyone tried the hb21 or the pt6 at tuba exchange? Both seem very low in cost compared to the new prices of those horns.

Also, PLEASE keep a look out for the horn! i understand that the insurance company owns the horn if it is found and will sell it off. Its a good horn and deserves a good home!

Take care,

Man, that sucks. And Appleton is *not* a big place either. Hope it turns up!

Jarrad,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I've been doing some searching on craigslist in WI and several surrounding states with no luck. However, I saw the add from the cellist's mother. The brand of cello is labeled as 3/4 Rudolph Doetsch No. 34175 copy of Antonius Stradavari. I would suggest contacting surrounding pawn shops. If that doesn't turn any results, go to yellowpages.com and get a list of phone numbers for pawn shops in the state. Start calling and asking specifically for the cello, your tuba, the pink cello case, your tuba case and/or your tuba mouthpieces. Someone who steals that amount of distinguishable equipment won't want to hold onto it for too long. Good luck man.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have contacted all the shops (pawn, music, thrift...) and contacted those mentioned above, plus more, without luck. :(

Robert Levy does not teach here anymore. He retired a few years ago. His position, which was to teach trumpet and run the wind ensembles, have been split into two parts. It's amazing to think that he was able to do all that! He does come and guest conduct the ensembles quite frequently.

Thanks again for the help!

Jarrad,

I am in your area (Green Bay) and will definitely keep my eyes and ears open. I am also going to show my wife your post...she works at Instrumental Music Company in Green Bay (though you may have already called them), and I'll ask her to be on the look out for your horn.

At the moment, all I can tell you is that the instruments have been recovered. Once all the legal business has been worked out, which may take a a week or two, I will tell the whole story. Thanks for all inquires! You all will find out soon.
