Cannon Music Camp

Post by CJBlaha »

Since 1969, Cannon Music Camp has offered the most comprehensive course of musical instruction in the Southeast, with intensive college preparatory work in performance and music theory. Ensemble performance is stressed, and experiences in choir, orchestra, band, jazz, and chamber music are provided. Equally important is the one-on-one instruction each camper receives in his or her weekly one-hour private lessons.

Cannon Music Camp, on the campus of Appalachian State University, is open to serious music students who have completed grades 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12. The camp provides a three-week, music-filled retreat in North Carolina's magnificent Blue Ridge Mountains. The "camp home" is a University residence hall located near Broyhill Music Center.

Information about the camp, including application materials, can be found at:

For the summer 2013 camp, we are still looking for a few more euphonium and tuba players.
It's going to be an excellent 3 weeks of music in the mountains this year, come join us!

I went to this music program in 2002 and had a blast.

Lots of different music going, and chances to play in different ensembles from band, orchestra to jazz, and also theory classes. If you are in high-school I highly recommend you look into this program!

Spending a month in one of the most beautiful places in the summer isn't too bad either.

I am in Boone every summer and try to meet up with some faculty, I am there in July this year and hope to check some things out at ASU.

cheers,
John
