Looking for Acoutics textbook; By Baines???

Post by Tundratubast »

I'm looking for a textbook written by a "Baines" It supposedly discusses the theory of brass wind instruments as it relates to the overall length of an instrument, it's base key, and the length of the corresponding valve loops. If someone happens to have the boo or something similar collecting dust on a shelf or in a box. I might be interested n taking it off your hands. PM me if you have such a beast.

I have such a book around here but don't recall if it's by that author. I try to have a deeper look later this evening.

Here's a website that has answered many of my questions:

A low-level and easy read introduction to musical acoustics is Arthur Benade's "Horns, Strings & Harmony". Now probably out of print, but you may be able to pick up the Anchor books paperback in a used book store.

Holy cats! There was a recent post from the "Schilke Brass Clinic" that really addresses major aspects of brass tubular response, etc.. (No comments on that piece?) What are you trying to do?

Thanks again Sloan,

It looks like your typical light reading. If I don't find what I need here, it must not be available. Thanks to all for your suggestions. I think these will keep me busy.
