Frankfurt Musikmesse 2011 with Photos

Post by TheBerlinerTuba »

Hallo Everyone,

I was at the 2011 Frankfurt Musikmesse this week with friends and collegues, and we took some pics for everyone not able to attend.
Apologies for not having better photography technique, but I hope this gives everyone a taste of what was there.

Secondly, apologies to the many makers that I didn't have time to photograph, including Meisters Rudolph Meinl  although you can still see their wonderful tubas from my postings made from last year.

You can either click on the individual links below or browse here:

If I've mislabled something, please let me know!

Viel Spaß!

HI-
Wow, you win the award! Great work. I really enjoyed watching the photobucket slide show of all the pics with my Sunday morning coffee--thanks again!

PS The 696 CC tuba must be a new model--it is not in their present catalog...

Hi Mark,
yes the 696 is a new model CC tuba from Cerveny. It was nice, but the 696 Kaiser BBb was really something...

Yes, thanks!

I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on the Cerveny 696, the Voigt hammered F (I guess you wouldn't have to worry about getting small dents in it!) and the wooden mouthpieces . . . .

hints Cerveny makes compensating euphoniums. Have these been discussed here?

Hi-
After seeing this, I emailed my contact at Cerveny asking about this CC tuba--here is the response--FYI-mark

Hello Mark,

the CCB 696 is a 6/4 CC Tuba. It features the same bore and bell size
like the 601 CC Tuba, but the body (the bore of the body) is larger.
That means it has a bigger sound. Its not really new, we make this
Tuba since a few years now, but we never had this Tuba on display at the Show, so
I have decided its time to show this model to the public.

There is also the CCB 693 model, which is also 6/4 Tuba, but compact
size (not as tall as the 696 model). This is a new Tuba, but we had no
managed to finalize for the show, thats we we had there just the 696
6/4 full size Tuba, beside the famouse Piggy C (CCB 603).

All the mentioned Tubas as a 5-valves models with 2nd slide triggers.

best regards Thomas.

p.s. I saw some people making pictures, its nice to have such
feedback, great.

Hallo,

to Mark: thanks for the clarification! Because of the large sign that said "NEW" on it, I assumed it was a new model..it also had the best 2nd valve trigger I've ever used before.

to Klaus: sorry, there was a 5 valve rotary Bariton there that was so much fun to play, I didnt get to the euphoniums...

to Bort: compared to older 181s I've seen and from what i was told at the Messe, the new 181 miraphone has had its 5th and 6th valves reversed, valves vented, and a host of other small detail changes.

to Hrender: well...between 3 tubists with differing tastes in tubas, it was hard to come to a consensus on what was the best there. For example, one person liked the Fasolt, another the Miraphone Siegfried, and the other, the Cerveny 696, and then the Rudy BBb, and then....

to Circusboy: do you mean the Cerveny BBb 696 or CC version? They played quite differently! The Bb was an absolute canon. I almost think it would be too much for most groups. The CC was of course clearer, but somehow didn't have the same omph. Perhaps I was biased because I tried the Bb first.
I think you mean the Brassego/Haagman F tuba or? It had a beautiful resonant sound, almost like a CC tuba even in its lower range. It was obvious that it was made with great care and love from its builder.
As for the wooden mouthpieces, they sounded, well...wooden.

HI-
I was very (and am!) curious about the 6/4 696 CC tuba by Cerveny. I contacted Dillon Music, and Matt had no info on it, so I contacted Cerveny directly about the instrument. Here is their response:

Hello Mark,

of course Dillon Music does not have this Tuba in their dealer
catalogue, because we never offered this Tuba to them. We understand,
that symphonic orchestras in the USA largely use CC Tubas, but we also
understand, that the vast majority uses Piston Tubas (front action).
This is, why we never offered these Kaiser Tubas to the dealers in
USA. Since we know right now, that there is a little bit market for
rotary Cc as well, we will inform Dillon Music about these models and
ask them to include in their line. We don't sell directly, we sell
only to dealers and Dillon Music is our premium dealer with regard
to Tubas.
This CCB 696 and probably also the compact 6/4 model CCB 693, we might
send with our early May delivery to our warehouse in NJ. Probably we
will provide both tubas to Dillon Music for testing or just showing
the customers.

The CCB 696 is taller than the 601 model. Its 6/4 size, not only
regarding the bore size of the body, ut also regarding the height.

The 696 model is available also in red brass (CCB 796 - all red brass
models start with 7), but as a custom production only, we don't stock
this model.

In case of your interest just to try the tuba, we can talk end of May
when the container reaches our warehouse in NJ. You can of course come
to our warehouse as well, if its more convenient for you.

So it looks like the 696 6/4 5v CC and the compact 6/4 693 5v CC will be available in the States late Spring/early Summer. Great news!
