The 'new' piston CC Thor

Post by bisontuba »

Hi-
I received the Spring WWBW catalog in the mail today, and noticed that for CC tubas, they listed the 'Large bell' version-either in lacquer or silver-of the CC piston M/W Thor tuba. I had heard that a 19" bell piston Thor was coming, & I guess this confirms it. The M/W website does not mention it, but the WWBW website does confirm that you can now get a lacquer or silver piston CC Thor with normal or 'large' bell.

Has anyone played and/or owns one with the larger bell?

Regards-

I guess MW have fitted with the same bell as used on the new Tuono? Might make the Thor more tonally attractive to players (like myself) who found the original Thor too direct sounding for their taste.

The modified model should be called something other than 'Thor', as it is moving away from the original concept, maybe' Magni' or 'Modi' the two sons of Thor, or daughter 'Thrud'

Are we watching the dethoriation of a fine tuba model?

As for Selmer saxes: There was a VII between the VI and the SA80. That VII according to legend was an adaption for the huge hands of a certain US jazz sax man spending quite a few years in my country.
