Something between PT50 and PT88

I bought me a nice used Miraphone 187 which I'm playing now for a few of weeks. I'm using my PT88 and recently received a PT50. In general (for the wide range of music we play in our community band of 60 musicians) I like the sound of the PT88 better, but the PT50 gives me better articulation.

Basically I'm looking for a mouthpiece which gives me the smooth articulation which I get with my PT50 and with the core (more edgy) sound from my PT88.

From what I read, the MF3 and MF3H are very similar to the PT50 (sound wise). Is that correct?
Is the MF3B like the PT88 or more in between the PT50 and PT88?
Where does the Blokepiece Symphony fit?

Which mouthpiece do you suggest I try first in my search?

I gave up on the PT-50 because it was hard to get a clean articulation. I haven’t tried the PT-88, but as I understand it that is no small mouthpiece either, and the rim contour is not too different from the one of the PT-50.

Very long shot, but you apparently have a more explosive attack than I have on these round (edgeless) rims. Have you considered taking some of the (too) high compression out of your attack? And possibly change the (too) narrow airstream to something wider? And then in the end stay with the PT-88?

Thanks. I'm sure I can improve on it (or adapt to it). I noticed (just like you say) that I need to improve/adapt my air flow. Big attack's are however not the issue. The softer I play (ppp legato), the more I prefer the articulation I "get" with my PT50. It comes with much more ease.

My conclusion was that I should try something between the shape (bowl/funnel) and dimensions (33mm/33.5mm cup diameter and 8.2/8.3 bore) of the PT50 and PT88. Until then I will keep on practicing on my PT88

When I tried a PT50, PT48 and PT48+ on my 1291 BBb the PT 50 was woofy and the PT48+ had the most solid sound. I had two people listening to me play and took turns playing with one of the other guys. I ended up buying the PT48+.

I'm just back from the store after trying the PT48. It handles very well and the sound is nice and compact, but thereby (compared to the PT88 and PT50) also sounding smaller. Overall I like the PT88 best. From this I think I should stay with the deeper mouthpieces.

Any other recommendations are welcome. I'm willing to try some more

Years ago I received a Rudolf Meinl 1 when I purchased a horn and used it for many years.
After some time, I went through a mouthpiece thing, bought lots of mouthpieces and then settled on a PT-88 and then a PT-50. I played on each for at least a year.

Last year I pulled out the Rudy and realized it was the one that worked best for me.

The PT-50 is very similar, but the 1 has a much flatter rim that I like. Your mileage may vary...
