Jin bao lacquer

Those of you who've had a Jin bao Product of any kind for a while,how's the lacquer holding up?

I bought a 191 clone back in 2004 and started having problems with the laquer within a months. Apparently the laquer reacts with warm persperation and starts to soften. It eventually gets tacky and discolors, then it comes off. I sold the tuba to a band mate, so I still see it every Tuesday night and it has continued to get worse. But for the price it is a nice playing horn. My bandmate enjoys playing it and does not seem concerned how it looks. If I would have kept it, I would have had it stripped and relaquered with something better.

The finishing now is done in a state of the art unit , same as in the better factories, since 2010

I am unaware or a JinBao made 191 clone! TE sells a clone, but I believe it may be a Dalyan...I sell JinBao's, and have only had 1 instance of a sparse laquer job out of dozens of instruments! I know MM and TE have been pushing for better QC at the factory, not sure about Laabs though. My rep has assured me of efforts to implement improvements in fit and finish of ALL JinBao products. As an aside, I have had no complaints about their Silver or Nickel finishes so far...

I've had two Jinbao trombones (one soprano, one alto) for almost a year and a half and haven't had any lacquer problems at all.

If Schiller branded instruments are actually made by Jin Bao, then I can highly recommend the Jin Bao lacquer. I have four Schiller instruments (tenor trombone, alto trombone, French horn, and CC 5 rotor tuba) and the lacquer is flawless. No sign of lacquer failure over the past year.

The horn I bought from someone who got it from Custom Music with a label reading "Sanders Custom" glued over the Chinese logo on the bell. I had heard from someone that it was made by Jin Boa. It was sold by Custom Music in 2003.

Some people seem to have very acidic sweat which can remove lacquer. A friend of mine starting having lacquer come off a Courtois euphonium after playing only one month, so this is not a problem relating to specific makes. People with that problem are best playing silver plated horns.

Anyway, I guess Chinese lacquer has improved a lot since 2004 as with all their production methods

I got my Fasch basstromone which I suppose is made by Jinbao 2007, an instrumet I use on a daily basis for making my living. Over all the laquer is fine except for a few spots on the thumb lever, one of the valve caps and some spots on one of the cork barrels (but not at a contact point?!). A newer JB tenor trombone from 2008 that had extensive use is in perfect condition. The polishing beneath the laquer is not perfect though, there could be improvements. The used Stagg tuba of unknown age, but probably a couple of years old, is better regarding polishing and the laquer looks fine too except for some wear at the contact points.
