Here is the link to the Prokofiev with a little warm-up prior to the excerpt showing the low register.

On what model is it based? I was thinking it after an old B&S design going by the 45 degree valve port entry?

I am expecting this model, the JBBB-210 and JBBB-800 in August and am looking forward to trying and may post a side by side comparison demo of these three JinBao BBb models.

Thanks for the demos Tom, although cannot really appreciate at present on my laptop speakers

Hi Jonathan,

You can say it was copied after the B&S, but that was designed after the Alex as well. Take a look at the Alex 163 BBb for a comparison, I don't have Alexanders link handy but you can do a google search to find it.

Thanks

PS I think that must be a later version of the 163 in the photo you link Klaus?

Entering my Yahoo-based gallery via

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Yo ... %20format/

you may go to

Alexander 1976 catalogue in 300dpi .jpg scans. Paul Mansur made the catalogue available and Peter Piorkowski made the scans. All catalogue pages including woodwinds and percussion can be found as documentation for this company mostly known as a maker of rotary horns and tubas. These files are very large, 4MB or 5MB:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/YorkMaste ... 1/pic/list

Alexander Low Brass from a 1985 catalogue:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/YorkMaste ... 3/pic/list

Alexander 1989 price list and valve maintenance guide:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/YorkMaste ... 4/pic/list

Jonathan’s photo sample equals the older catalogue. My photo sample equals the newer catalogue. This fits talk by the late Danish military tubist John Thomsen, who considered B&S being Alexander clones.

Hi M&M,

What is the story about the 3/4 CC that has the Alex wrap? Did you help design that as well? It looks like a great size quintet horn.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Bloke,

You hit the nail on the head. Its been around for over twenty years. About 15 years ago, I looked into the Alex 163 5v CC copy, china had one that looked great but I did not have the means to buy 5 of them. Can't find who made it but I am looking.

All this should be in the sponsor's section guys!
Tom, you're going to have to start charging for those demonstrations! I had several hits on the 200's already...

I think that is debatable? If this had been posted in the Sponsors section, then no discussion would have been possible and this has brought out some very useful information of general interest to the board. After all TubeNet is a discussion forum and not a notice board!

I know some members of TubeNet do not like such posts about Chinese tubas, but would be quite happy if it was video of the latest German model

Agreed it is not a new model but it is still one many will not have heard or know much about.

All I am trying to say is discussion about any model of tuba from whatever source should be welcome. Yes, no doubt Tom hopes to make sales as a result, but then everyone has reasons for their comments. It can only be good to be able to hear a model from whatever company to assess for oneself.

Let's face it.one Important part of Playing tuba is finance.if a tuba can do 80-90% for 25% cost, u gotta consider it...interesting to me,and we can ask all the tough questions we like on this forum.

Why does this belong in the Sponsors section? Why is it okay for "Ferguson" to have so many posts and pics about Kanstul on TubeNet? If we're going to send the Chinese horns to the one part of TubeNet, send them all.

P.S.

Don't post some BS about how he's not a sponsor. Anyone who takes horns to conferences as an exhibitor, like Kanstul tubas, should be considered a sponsor when they're posting about said horns.

That wasn't for you. It's for those who are upset at the Chinese distributors but who seem to be ok with the free promotion given to Kanstul.

Hi!
I would rather see posts concerning products in the sponsor's section to avoid any conflict of interest accusations. I agree that head to head comparisons are of interest/value to fellow 'netters though
