F Tuba Mouthpiece Suggestions

Post by SFA Tubajack »

I recently entered the F tuba world and must say I'm enjoying it so far. However, the mouthpiece I have is a Bobo solo, its a fine mouthpiece but it has some wear and tear on it and the shank is slightly dented in.

Any suggestions for a good mouthpiece to try?

Cheers,
Chris

A lot of people use the bobo solo and are quite successful with it. It can be a good way to go. Personally I use a blokepiece solo #2 and that works really well for me.

What kind of F tuba? Certain models of tubas seem to work better with certain MP's.

My go to mouthpiece for F tuba is a Laskey 28C. It is one of the best out there for F tuba use (for me at least). I have also had a lot of success on the Cooley Helleberg.

The best thing to do is try as many as you can get your hands on.

That's my opinion, FWIW

The Bobo works great! It plays extremely well. I'm just kind of fishing around for suggestions of different mouthpieces to try out and see if maybe something else works better for me.

My instructor hasn't hear me play on it as we're in summer break from college and I didn't get the horn until 3 weeks or so into break.

I bought the tuba from a member of Tubenet, here's the seller's ad: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=43113

It's not exactly a great horn, but for a college student its perfect to learn on and better than some other tuba's I have played on (aka school horns).

Thanks for the responses!

You might try a Miraphone TU-23 on that tuba. I believe the old model number of that mouthpiece is C-4.
