Vintage Alexander Bottom Valve Cap

Post by Z-Tuba Dude »

Hey Guys & Gals,

Anybody know where I can find a replacement bottom valve cap, for a vintage Alexander F tuba?

Here is what the caps look like:

Just for giggles, here are the decorative rotor screws:

....and here is the whole horn:

If anyone has any thoughts, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Here is the email, mail@musik-alexander.de" target="_blank

Your horn appears to be from the '60's or maybe every the earlier, your probably in luck as they have not changed the design much since then.

Thanks, I'll try contacting Alexander directly.

In the meantime, if anyone happens to have old tuba parts, I would appreciate it if you could check!

I just email Alexander in regards for the same parts for my Alex F. I'll let you know if/when I hear back from them. :tuba:

FYI - I recently ordered a new main tuning crook for my F (it plays sharp with my MP selection). It took a little while to hear back from them as they are a little understaffed and backlogged on the customer support side. I can say that they were very helpful once I made it into the queue, and service was rapid once discussions began. I think you should have a high chance of getting what you need.

Beautiful horn BTW!

I just received an email from Alexander. They do not have the parts, and the only way for them to see if the new ones will fit is if you mail them a part so they can measure. :tuba:

Here is what I recommend at this point, send the horn to Dan Oberlo (SP??? Sorry) and let him make another for you.

He is a god when it comes to this stuff.

It seems obvious to me that Alexander presently buys valves from J. Meinlschmidt GmbH.

I wonder if Alexander has always done this or if they used to actually make tuba valves themselves.

Perhaps J. Meinlschmidt GmbH might have been the original manufacturer of your valves and could supply you with a replacement cap.
