Post by Brown Mule »

Any update on a former post saying military is reducing music budget by 30 %-----------Upsets me ----------hope Congress or our Pentagon people realize that the bands are a good morale booster----------------------Hearing the Star Spangle Banner played at Korean DMZ(7th Div Band) in "65 gave me goose pimples.(and made me homesick)

The cut is attached as an amendment to the budget for the next fiscal year. Currently, the budget is sitting in the senate waiting for them to get back in session. Please, please, please write your senators. A 30% cut may not seem like alot, but I guarantee that military bands in all services in various parts of the world will shut down- and not just 30% of them either.

If past history is any indication, they will figure out a way to retain military bands. At the beginning of the Civil War, each regiment was authorized a band; a year and a half later, regimental bands were supposedly abolished. However, brigade bands were permitted.
