FYI-the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass released a new CD on iTunes from their Dec 2010 concerts.
Take a listen to the Passacaglia. I believe the opening line descends to the low G and ends on a pedal C. Just lovely. Although it is not listed, I went to the concert and seem to recall a second tuba player on this piece that may account for the endless line.
