Hello to all the high school tuba and euphonium students! I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about tuba and euphonium study at the Washington State University School of Music. Located in Pullman, Washington, the School of Music offers many performance opportunities for its tuba and euphonium students. Ensembles include Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, the Cougar Marching Band, quartets and quintets, as well as brass ensemble. Students enrolled in lessons get a one-hour lesson each week and attend weekly studio and school-wide recital preparation classes. The brass faculty believe in working as a team, so brass students can expect to work with each of the faculty members individually throughout their study here. We find that this gives students more than one teacher's perspective, as well as the opportunity to get even more feedback. The music community in the Pacific Northwest fosters creativity, culture, and development. You will find that this area has a keen awareness for the arts and culture, as evidenced by the Washington-Idaho Symphony, the Spokane Symphony, and various art festivals throughout the region. The University and the School of Music are able to offer competitive scholarships to incoming students. Audition days are coming up in January and February, so start planning! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Chris,
Welcome to Pullman, and to my undergrad alma mater. Lo those many decades ago, I majored in trombone, playing in the Spokane Symphony my senior year. I'll be following the accomplishments of your studio in the periodic emails the SoM sends to me. Best of Luck!
