That is how I have always said it - "Soo-sa".

Ironically, the way most of us pronounce it with the Z in the middle is more faithful to its Portuguese origins. (I think they'd say "so-za" though.) I'm telling myself he probably pronounced his Zs a little dry and the recording just picked that up. Surprised they got him on a recording at all ... maybe that's how he pronounced his Zs while gritting his teeth.
