Miraphone JE-186

Can anyone tell me what the JE is in the MIraphone JE 186? Also, what is the general going price for a used one in good condition.

Yeah, this actually has JE engraved into it on the bell. Its a little odd.

If this is the one up on eBay, that's definitely a "TE." Just some dirt/scratch/weird angle makes it look a little like a J.

"Not bird, nor plane, nor even frog" ... <ahem> ... sorry, wrong show ... "not dirt, nor scratch, nor even weird angle" -- it's just a tuba-shaped "T". If you go to the Tuba Exchange main page ...

... and look at their logo (upper left corner), you'll see that the "T" in the logo is formed by a tuba! The engraved "T" on this instrument mimics the bell and bottom bow of the tuba in the logo.

This is not the only confusingly-fancy engraving to be found on tubas. Many of us remember (a few years back) a number of auctions of J.W. York and Sons tubas, where the sellers had mis-interpreted the ornate lettering in the York logo -- most of them were advertised as "Y.M. Dork and Sons" or something similar.
