Tuba Museum

Post by Deke B »

I'm going to be in East Lansing Oct 7&8 and am staying at the comfort Inn in Okemos. I'd like to visit the Tuba museum while I'm there and maybe try out one of the jumbos. I started playing tuba at age 11 at East Lansing High School (junior high was combined). I'm going back for the 50+ reunion at the high school. Maybe Lee Staser, Bud Peake ?Thorpe or Greg Seaman will be there (contemporaries of mine)
Who should I contact at the tuba museum?

There is a 'contact us' link on their website. That should be a good start:
Link removed because it no longer works.

Resurrecting this thread as I didn't see it elsewhere....

Go here: Okemos Tuba Museum Petition

I don't know if it's possible to save the joint, but it sure is a fun little place with good people, good food, and some interesting horns hanging about. I go there every time I visit East Lansing, but it looks like the place is in real jeopardy. Maybe more signatures on the petition above will help.

The restaurant is officially closed. Some developer is tearing it down to put up a women's beauty salon. Pthhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
They did reopen the music shop so you might see if the EEflat Sousa is there on display. The shop name is White Brothers I believe.

The Tuba Musem and International Traverlers Club is now closed and not in business at this time.
They hope to open soon in Old Town Lansing (North side of Lansing) in the near future.

Sorry for the bad news.

Not all bad news. Having signed the online petition to save the museum some time ago, I got this e-mail today:
The Tuba Museum has found a new home in Lansing's Old Town! As soon as $200,000 is raised we can start remodeling. Please help by donating at the link below - or through our web site at http://www.travelerstuba.com" target="_blank or directly through Paypal at

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?c ... 2259AZADCJ" target="_blank

Plans are to incorporate as a nonprofit teaching restaurant/brewpub/museum, but as yet donations are not tax deductible. All donors of $5 or more will become Tuba Aficionados and receive Epicurean Omnivore cards good for discounts on meals and merchandise. Donors of $50 or more will receive a Tuba Museum T-shirt!
