King serial number

My King 1240 has a serial number of 25568 on the first valve casing. The King website says that this would mean the horn was built between 1883 and 1915. That can't be right! I remember seeing discussions about prefixes and adding/subtracting numbers. Could someone enlighten me regarding when my horn was manufactured? Thanks!

Well that was quick change of horns, congrats

It really was. I went to look at this King 1240 from a guy on craigslist and he let me take it home and said to just get him a check by the end of the month! It helps that he turned out to be the percussion guy that comes to the school I teach at. We sold a trombone on ebay and the Miraphone sold as well, so we were able to replace it! It worked out pretty well. Now I'm just going to be saving up to modify it (flip 1st valve, "unwrap" 3rd valve, add 4th valve, replace bell and eventually cut it to CC, or maybe just save up, buy a 1241/2341 and have that cut to CC instead of adding the 4th valve to this one. We'll see...)

On a King 'Cleveland' horn... that serial number would fall between 1930 and 35. The prefixes apply to the years between 87 and 95 where the number plus 50 is the year of manufacture.
