Hi,
Ditto to the shelf liner. Honestly, it's the cheapest immediate option that will most likely solve your problem. I've never had a problem with it leaving a mark on either of my silver horns and you can cut any size you need. i cut a LONG piece, double it over and wrap it around my left leg. when you stand up, simply put your left hand under the liner and stand. The liner grips well enough to keep from slipping. try the liner first and if it doesn't work try the rest. Heck it's like $8 and if it doesn't work you can use it to line your shelves!

I agree with Casey, shelf liner. That is one beautiful horn, good luck.

A quick update.
After a call to Mark Carter (Mr Tuba) I was sent a stand (K&M) a tuba tuning bit and a length of the rubber shelf liner.
The stand was discarded pretty much straight away; I think I'm too much of a 'hugger' and couldn't work with the instrument not resting on some part of me. A good solution for a bigger instrument I guess, or maybe someone shorter than my 6' 2" frame.
The tuning bit was angled, I would guess, at about 30 degrees but actually put the mp position further round the bell so no good there.
However the rubber liner has been a big success! Before playing I wrap a length around the bottom bow. It stays put (I guess it holds itself in position) and means my tuba stays put on my right leg too :D
Thanks for the advice - I'm confident that Mark would have offered this as a solution anyway (he knows his stuff) but having had a few recommendations certainly made me try it with more enthusiasm than I might.

Bob - thanks for the offer but I don't think I'll need to borrow your stand now.

The tuning bit doesn't HAVE to continue the arc around the bell! It can be rotated to create an "S" shape. Or...anything in between.

Kenneth,
The bit sent to me (I he made it on the morning I called him) was had just one moving stem - a ball joint kind of device. Luckily I don't need it!

Thanks though,
Phil.
