Looks like a Miraphone 191 with a Bruckner 5th valve slide and different 1st valve slide. Even has a triangle logo engraved on the bell!

Say whaaaa?

Also, personally, I'm not a fan of the gold plating, though I'm sure plenty of people will like it!

On the front of the bell, maybe 4 inches above the leadpipe. Doesn't that look like a Miraphone logo or do I need new glasses?

Oh, I saw it, just curious what it is! In all fairness, I have no clue what the usual M&M logo looks like, so maybe it's just a weird angle on part of the logo.

But, that would be pretty terrible if it was just a ripoff....

I don't know what the M&M logo looks like either, and rereading my post I should have worded it better - a "Miraphone-like" logo. I wasn't accusing anybody of a ripoff. My apologies if I created that impression.

I don't know what's on that particular tuba, but I've got an M&M instrument sitting here (bought second hand for a fraction of Michael's price, BTW) and it doesn't have a Miraphone-like logo on it. Just M&M then USA on the line below. FWIW.

As far as this 191-inspired horn goes, is it really new? I thought it had been on the market for quite some time?

EDIT: Of course my horn is "inspired by" a Cerveny, not a Miraphone, so that might make a difference.

The 191 clone has been on the market for many years (maybe 10) as an Allora 191... house brand of Woodwind/Brasswind. I recall those horns as being VERY close to the 'real thing'.

Not trying to offend anyone here or elsewhere...just my overall thought from long before this thread...

I have 2 problems with the silver/gold setup (though some makers have better executions of it than others):

-- Gold slides and other random tubing, to me, makes it look like a silver tuba and a brass tuba were cobbled together.
-- Gold plating on contact points doesn't make sense to me...silver wears off quickly enough as it is, wouldn't a thin layer of gold come off even more quickly?

I'm not totally against the accent idea, it's very slick. I only think it needs to be carefully placed and designed to look good and be functional, and not decided by "these parts are small enough to be put into the gold plating tank separately."

Not to mention, once you bling it up, it'd damn well better sound and be played as good as it looks. Heh, that's why I like ugly tubas, low expectations. :P

Never liked "blinged-up" instruments (cars, teeth, etc.) of any kind.
+1
It's targeted at the under served niche market of tuba playing Pimps.

Notice how nicely the tuba fits the young woman holding it, assuming that she has an embouchure in her forehead.

Hi!
These Tubas are available with less tacky trimmings! I'm not sure if T.E. or MM started selling 'em first, but I can say they are NOT JInBao's!!! I hope to order a couple (they are PRICEY!) as soon as my Latest JinBao order finally comes through. Maybe Neptune will have one come through his shop before Mack or I do...I haven't had one on my lap yet, but have heard favorable comments here and there. Look for a review in the sponsor's section if i get a hold of one this winter! I am not sure if I can hire a more attractive model than MM, but I will promise a thorough review of the Tuba!
