Help needed for premiere at ITEC, Linz

Post by LARSONTUBA »

Hi TubeNet--

My name is Andy Larson. I had a proposal chosen for presentation at the ITEC in Linz Austria next summer. I will be performing a world premiere duet for Tubas and GUA. My collaborators in this project are Nick Hwang and Corey Knoll (composers and Gua-ists) and Sergio Carolino.

We have a kickstarter campaign currently going to raise some funds for the technological costs of our undertaking. Please visit our site at: http://goo.gl/heH4Q and consider donating. If you aren't interested in donating, that is absolutely cool with us. If you could do us the favor of then forwarding it to your facebook or thru your email list, we would appreciate your help that way too. Getting this kickstarter page viewed by as many people as possible is what's going to make it successful.

So to give you some info on the our presentation:

Part One will be on GUA - our digital instrument that we have invented. It is a series of live sound processors in addition to six buffers that can be replayed processed or unprocessed. This first section of the presentation will basically be a tech talk on how GUA works, how it came to be, and the creative possibilities that we have already encountered with it in performance in the U.S.

Part Two will be the premiere itself.

The big cost for making this trip happen is in technology demands. We need to build two pairs of hemispherical speakers that can be latched together in order to make them more travel friendly. (making a speaker volleyball, so to speak) We currently use custom built speakers here in Baton Rouge that are about 18" around and 10" tall. Those just won't cut it on planes and trains in Portugal and Austria. After the speakers are taken care of, we will apply the money to hardware and software costs, and finally to offset some travel costs.

This isn't our entire budget (by a long shot) but will definitely help us make the premiere at ITEC a reality.

Please check out the page, and again, even if you don't think the project is for you, please help us out by forwarding it to your friends. (And don't forget to urge them to share it with their friends too!!)

Thanks for checking it out and I'll see you in Linz!

Awesome idea, and I wish you guys a lot of luck in getting to your pledge goal. I'm a big fan of combining the tuba with newer technologies, and I think this is the type of thing that needs to presented at conferences like ITEC. Do keep the tuba world posted about any recordings or performances you make with this technology! I'd be very interested to see what you guys make for the conference.
