The wheels make sense, but why an adjustable thumb ring on the case?Tubajason wrote:But is has an adjustable thumb ring and wheels on the case. That is at least worth 3000.00 right there.

Re: Stagg tuba
Completely valid feelings. I did rather like the one or 2 I've played. The next time I see one used for 1000-1200 I might have to bounce no matter HOW heavy they are, though I'd -definitely- go for a used 1291 clone or maybe a 191 clone first.
****, I'm almost to the point of buying a NEW 1291 clone (and when I get my bonus next September a 653 or Rusk York F to go with it!). I'd feel a little bad about it but I play actual Miraphones in my reserve band (187's and have a 1281 on order! also that lousy 56J...) so I could live with it. A clone 1291 of my own and a Miraphone 1291 through the gubmint would probably be pretty sweet though!!

Are these recent Olds offerings the same thing?

Of course, these aren't REALLY Olds tubas. They look like Cerveny copies.... or maybe even made by Cerveny/Amati.

Pretty sure it's one of these: http://www.mackbrass.com/4_BBb_Tuba_5ROU.php" target="_blank"
Same thing here:

I used to have one, and would gladly take it back. But $4300 is insane.
