Kanstul 90-S vs. Gnagey 4/4?

I'm not trying to hurt any feelings here, but how do these horns compare? There are people who rave about both horns and there build is similar. Are there any major differences, besides appearance and parts?

I own one of Sam's tubas, with a York bell, and I did sit down for only a few minutes in DC with the Kanstul. I was expecting them to be very similar, but from what remember, they were not. Ergonomically, I found my Gnagey more comfortable to hold. I preferred the sound of the Gnagey too. I'll try again this Jan.

I probably shouldn't have said anything, being that my time spent on the Kanstul was very brief. The main thing I didn't like about the Kanstul was that I didn't find it comfortable to hold. This could be because, as I remember, the Kanstul had a more open wrap than the Gnagey. I find the Gnagey very comfortable to hold and play. I also like the small valve cluster on the Gnagey tuba (King valve set). I don't recall if the Kanstul had a similar valve set. It's difficult for me to compare the sound of the 2. I played the Kanstul in the elephant room and I didn't have my Gnagey with me to compare the 2. I remember thinking I liked the sound of the Gnagey better, although they would be similar with the .689 bore and York-ish bells. I'll try and get a better comparison this Jan.

I'm a proud owner of the 90-S and its unfortunate that i haven't had the chance to play a Gnagey, but i will tell you my horn is very comfortable in the lap and i'm a hair under 6'3.

Yes its small,
Yes the sound is huge
Yes i can rumble the walls
Where it really shines is where it just sings.

Well, i have a recital to be off to, playing some fun music, and ill be back later.

I haven't had a chance to play either of these, but I've always thought the Gnagey tubas *look* awesome. The fact that they are not stripped, buffed, and refinished in shiny silver is very appealing to me.

I'm just I'm saying, I like the look of Sam's tubas. I don't think every tuba should look like that (especially not a brand new one), nor should.all restored or rebuilt tubas be made to look new. There's a middle ground where old and used looks cool again (to me).
