SCMEA Day of Tuba and Euphonium
It's almost euphonium and tuba time on Long Island again. Each year the Suffolk County Music Educator's Association (SCMEA), sponsors Day of Tuba and Euphonium, formerly known as Howard Hovey Tuba Day, in Howard's memory. As the chairman of this event for the past 30 years, I thought that our readers might be interested in knowing about the event, which is in its 31st year. Primarily geared toward middle school and high school euphonium and tuba players, we do attract college students, teachers and pros. The event will take place at the Sayville Middle School on Friday, Nov. 4 from 3-9:30 pm. This year's guest artist will be internationally renowned tuba virtuoso, Oystein Baadsvik. The afternoon consists of rehearsals and clinics. The pm concert features: the Sunnyland Quartet (trad. jazz with Howard's sons, Art Hovey and Bob Hovey), the All-Star H.S. Tuba Ensemble, Oystein Baadsvik, the LI Tuba Quartet, the Faculty Tuba Ensemble, and the grand finale 300 piece (or more) SCMEA Massed Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble. The concert is free to the public and participation in the event is $15.00 payable to SCMEA. Looking for a horn? Dillon Music will also be on hand displaying their fine instruments and accessories. Bryan Doughty of Cimarron Music will also be there as well. For more info, contact me or check the SCMEA web site at http://www.scmea.org" target="_blank" target="_blank. You must then click on festivals and scroll through the bar on the left. Or, go to http://longislandtubaquartet.com" target="_blank" target="_blank and click the link at the bottom of the page for Day of Tuba and Euphonium. Check out hundreds of pictures from past HHTD events too.

I believe it is time for someone not located on Long Island, to respond. I wish I could be there. Best wishes for a successful event. Oh, yeah! The reason I can't make it: I have a gig(& I'm not lying, either).

Good for you, Ray! Enjoy your gig! I wish you and a lot of you other guys could make it, but I realize it's not possible for many due to the travel and cost of travel, to attend a 6 hour event. But, it is a really cool 6 hr. event!! I don't post about it expecting to get many people coming from outside the area. I just want everyone to see what's going on, tubawise, here on LI.
So Ray, if you're not coming here, I'll have to travel there - TMEA in Feb. Wut da heck. My 3 kids will be there!

Glad to hear it, Bill. Let me know if you'll have time to share a meal together. Or at least a cold one.Bill Troiano wrote:Good for you, Ray! Enjoy your gig!
