Re: Bruckner 8 Vienna (Walter Hilgers)
Thanks for the links to Ben and Josh!
I have downloaded the various stuff. Except the downloadhelper. That site is so horribly badly organized that I cannot find anything to download. The pages have pastel colours, which may be nice to look at, but which are very unfriendly towards efficient searches of the pages. Please give me a link for the exact page and please tell where to look at that page. Download buttons shall be very visible and shall not be buried somewhere in a text block. (I do not like designers that took their degree in a kindergarden).

Re: Bruckner 8 Vienna (Walter Hilgers)
The tuba playing is excellent for sure, but to me, this performance is exceptional because of the horns and Wagner tuba section (as the VPO is often known for!). WOW!
I also love the German/Austrian style orchestra, where the tuba is more of an extension of the horn section than it is an extension of the trombone section, and the trombones aren't too brassy. The rotary trumpets are also less harsh and more pleasing to my ears.
Other things I liked about this:
-- It's a REAL live performance, and has some cracked notes and squeaks. Even the world's best aren't perfect.
-- The compulsory European coughing/throat clearing between movements.

Here is a question -
Instead of fretting about downloads and conversions, and how soon it will be pulled, is there a LEGITIMATE way to buy the DVD these were pulled off?

This is great! I use the cable and Audacity because of the ability to clean out the noise and then export to MP3 (because I want to play it in iTunes, so FLV is no good for me). But going straight from YouTube to M4a is even better. Thanks!joshwirt wrote:Here is what I use:

You can download to multiple formats (FLV, m4a, etc). You can search YouTube directly inside the app as well.

If they weren’t taken from the original broadcast.MartyNeilan wrote:Here is a question -

I'd be glad to. Got a link?MartyNeilan wrote:Here is a question -

Then we could have a whole new thread fretting about how to strip audio out of a DVD. I've just last week learned a technique for doing that, as well.
-------
It occurs to me that it might be worth questioning whether there really is a question of legitimacy here. The fact that the videos reappeared could mean the uploader defeated the Japanese broadcaster's claim of infringement.

I don't care so much about these videos, but that German Brass Bach DVD is the 2nd/3rd most awesome non-horn musical thing I've ever bought. 1st is a nice solid music stand and the DVD is tied with the Cherry CD, which I should probably try to dig up some day. After dealing with a lousy, scratched copy a friend gave me the real thing was a breath of fresh air! It's also nice to support them. I'd love to find a DVD of Mnozil's set they played on their American tour a year ago; the sales desk was out of them after the concert. Also I regret not going up to Willie Brandstotter when I saw him walking around listening to another brass quintet earlier in the day and telling him how awesome his group is.MartyNeilan wrote:Here is a question -

The performance appears to have been from a Proms concert at the Royal Albert Hall, London so was probably broadcast on BBC TV in the UK, but never released on DVD. Was most likely 'pulled-off' BBC iPlayer were programmes are available for just one month and then only in the UK.talleyrand wrote:I'd be glad to. Got a link?.MartyNeilan wrote:Here is a question -

I don't remember viewing, so maybe was recorded a few years back - anyone know date of concert?
Edit: It was 2005 - found concert review on-line http://www.musicomh.com/classical/proms ... 2_0905.htm

Just get the Cincinnati one with Lopez-Cobos. The tuba playing is just as fine (brass in general is probably better on it) and the recording quality cannot be beat.

Just kidding. Yeah, I'll check that out too.

I finally had some time to sit down and listen this. Thank you all for posting it, it is wonderful work. My 6 month old was mesmerized, and had many smiles throughout the performance. She has never seen the instruments that produce these sounds (yes even my tubas are not around, as I do not want her to have my hearing loss!).
Also thanks for the recommendation on the Lobos recording... I love my Gunther Wand/Berliner recording, but I am always open to listening to other recs...

Does anyone know where I can listen to this again? This recording got me hooked on Bruckner and I've got a pretty good collection of Bruckner recordings, but this one is missing.
