Strap or harness for Kanstul Eb 66-S

Post by zangerzzz »

I've recently purchased a Kanstul Eb 66-S and am in need of a strap or harness for standing and playing. Any recommendations or experiences with such? Is there a certain vendor that would be best to talk to about it?
Thanks.

I have a buddy who knows a very talented harness-maker. These are hard-core! If you don't need it on your tuba, you can use it as a tow strap to extract your truck from a snow bank! Tell him the measurements, and he'll make a custom for you. don't have eyes for a strap? I saw a slick loop thingy on another type of strap that went around a bow or crook on your horn.

I have a strap with plastic clips.... they fail. I think the metal clips on this strap will eat up your finish. The clips David uses are steel that look like nickle plating. Good quality, but it is horse tack. Scratched finish or dented bottom bow... you decide.

This one does it for me;

I've no idea what they-re called in english since I was only interested in them after I'd lived in Holland for a time. It wouldn't surprise me if it were an english military band thing.

This is the version for a top-valved BBb and I own this type of pouch. It works great for my Kalison 80 F tuba. Since my F is wrapped smaller than an english-type BBb, I put extra holes in the straps so I could buckle it up higher.

The nice thing about a pouch is that when playing the tuba it feels a lot like it does on my lap but with extra support from the leather walls. You can move the horn around like one does in normal playing, as apposed to a conventional strap were one literally can feel strapped in! As well, the tuba doesn't fall out if I let it go, probably because the pouch is made for a larger horn. When I used to own a Conn 56J, it would almost not fall out, so I did need to keep one hand on it. But not to the extent that I was supporting the weight of the tuba, just a bit of balance.

Its also nice that you can put the pouch on without the weight of the tuba and put the tuba in or out rather quickly. This is very handy for turning the tuba to empty the built up condensation.

Good luck.
