Lanolin as a lip balm ?

Post by oldbandnerd »

I was curios about using lanolin for the slides and decided to research it a little . I found that it can be used on the lips too. I was wondering if this has been used by anyone here for the old chapped lip problems ? I suffer with constant chapped lips and it prevents me from playing and practicing back to back days . I usually need 2 days to heal up after rehersal or a concert. I've tried everything else ever mentioned here and am now on a daily doses of vitamin E and use Burts Beeswax after playing and only occcasionally during the day. When I have to play a lot I used Dr. Dans Lip Balm with hydrocortisone immdeiatly after playing. It's great for severly chapped lips but not for daily use. A 2 day rest is a big improvement over what I was going through before.

I'm sure it works, but in my opinion it would be gross. Some kind of medicated Burt's Bee's stuff would probably be better.

Yep, works great. One of my sons had severely chapped lips for a while, and the doctor told him to use it. Worked like a charm.

(I would sooner question using it as slide grease. I do it, but only on slides I never have to pull. At Bloke's suggestion, I use heavy motor oil on the ones I will want to move on the fly.)

DCT and "Chicken Poop" are my preferred chemicals. I do, however, ONLY use them when I have chapped or dry lips.

Chicken Poop, the name brand not the poop of chickens, has a pleasant smell reminiscent of Earl Grey. Plus, NO camphor.
